About Ken Gibson

Ken Gibson

I found my passion for great golf course architecture on the links of the British Isles. Experiencing the game and the courses in their land of origin, transcends the "every day" round of golf, embodying the essence of what I love about the game.

My passion for the game and pursuit of designing great golf courses led me to Kansas State University's College of Architecture, Planning and Design in the Fall of 1998. I concentrated my efforts on applying general landscape design principles to golf. In particular, large scale developments and land planning. Additionally, I spent my summers working for golf course builders, where I learned invaluable skills operating heavy machinery and developed a thorough understanding of what goes on below the surface of a golf course and how it is put together.

January of 2002, I pursued a seven month internship with Arthur Hills/Steve Forrest and Associates, a golf course architectural firm (AHSF). Upon completion of my degree, I accepted a full time position with AHSF. I have spent the past seven years as a golf course architect with AHSF.

SwingingDuring my time with the firm, I was involved in all aspects of the design and construction process on various projects and sites; from a perfect windswept dunes site with ocean holes, to a flat arid desert parcel. By incorporating my diverse studies, golf course construction experience, and creative design approach I quickly became the firm's leader in design development and land planning. In total, I have worked on over 100 different development plans and land plans during my time with AHSF.

My experience at AHSF was invaluable for developing my design and project management skills. It was typical for the firm to have 30-40 active projects in various stages at any given time. This allowed me the opportunity to lead and run several projects on my own and gave me the skill set to now move forward on my own. It also gave me the time to acknowledge that I thrive on details. I believe by running only two projects congruently that I can ensure I devote the appropriate amount of time on site, pouring over details.

I am an extremely passionate architect in pursuit of designing golf courses that exhibit the natural character of the site and capture the essence of the golf experience I have encountered on great courses around the world. Every twenty years or so, a great architect comes along and leaves his indelible mark on the golf world—I would like to meet with you to discuss creating a truly unique and memorable golf course that creates a buzz in the golfing world.
